antique stackable mahogany Globe Wernicke bookcase

Unrestored antique Globe Wernicke cabinet in a special configuration, plinth with drawer, deep section measuring 35 cm, 7 sections measuring 29 cm deep.

Together with the client, this configuration was created, resulting in an impressive bookcase. The various sections were collected during my buying trips in the UK, and the restoration process has now begun, starting with a woodworm inspection. If woodworm is found, the tunnels are blown clean under high pressure and treated to prevent future infestation. This is followed by the mechanical part of the restoration process. The doors must operate freely again, without catching when opened. Bringing the entire piece back to a single colour is a gigantic job and requires a great deal of time. The glass panes are then cleaned and everything is lightly waxed. For this configuration, you should allow approximately one month of work. But once completed, this cabinet will once again be fully usable for the next 100 years. After the cabinet has passed the final inspection, I install it at the client’s home. From purchase to installation, many steps are involved; thanks to all this handcrafted work, you can be sure that this bookcase is authentic, practical and an asset to any interior—a feast for the eyes.
